Square Enix has confirmed that the global version of their digital manga platform, Manga UP!, has exceeded a total of five million downloads worldwide. The platform originally launched in July 2022, serving as the international counterpart to the Japanese app of the same name. It was designed to provide English translations of Square Enix’s catalogue, ranging from completed best-sellers to ongoing serialisations.
Originally hosting 160 titles, since launch, that number has more than doubled to more than 350 works. This includes offering many of the ongoing series nearly simultaneously with their Japanese release windows, reducing the wait time for international readers. Current popular titles hosted on the service include The Apothecary Diaries, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, and Black Butler.
To mark the five million download threshold, a special campaign began on 13 December. Users who purchase ‘Coin’ within the app are eligible to receive up to 50% of the purchase amount back in XP. XP are free bonus items used to access manga chapters within the application.
To celebrate the milestone, the Manga UP! global version team provided a statement outlining their original objectives regarding release timing and their appreciation for the user base.
Thanks to your support of Manga UP!, the app has now been downloaded more than five million times. We launched Manga UP! in 2022 with the goal of making our popular and buzz-worthy manga titles available globally with as little lag as possible following their Japan releases. Since then, Manga UP! has become a hub to read SQUARE ENIX manga from all of its various publications. We have kept the new releases coming and worked to ensure that readers around the world find using the platform a highly satisfying experience, including by improving its functionality. We will continue to do our utmost to ensure the enjoyment of our readers and look forward to your continued support.
