During a recent special broadcast, Kuro Games confirmed that its action RPG Wuthering Waves will be receiving a physical PlayStation 5 Deluxe Collection, with full release details to be announced at a later date. The collector focused package is set to include an exclusive metal display featuring game inspired artwork, an acrylic standee of the two main protagonists, decorative acrylic paper, a collectible postcard, and redemption codes for a selection of in game items. Being a free-to-download game supported by gacha elements and a a cash shop – there will be no game as such alongside the release – as those buying it would very likely have already played the game.
The same livestream also offered a look at Wuthering Waves Version 2.8: To the City Set in Amber, which introduces a new area, characters, systems and events.
Version 2.8 adds Chronorift Metropolis as a new location, alongside two playable Resonators, Chisa and Buling. Chisa is a calm, analytical student from Startorch Academy who approaches battles with methodical precision, while Buling, known as the Spiritchaser Taoist, roams the land investigating supernatural mysteries through divination. Chisa’s signature weapon, Kumokiri, will also debut in this update. The main story continues with two new quests, Chapter II Act XII: Stagnant Dawn on Wastelands and Chapter II Segue: Flowing Starlight in the Iris, pushing the overarching narrative forward.
On the combat side, Version 2.8 adds several new Echoes and a high level Phantom Echo encounter. Fresh Echoes include Nightmare: Baby Roseshroom, Nightmare: Tick Tack and Nightmare: Dwarf Cassowary. The Phantom Echo, The False Sovereign, provides an additional battle opportunity for those looking to test their current builds.
The new Sonata Effect, Thread of Severed Fate, further broadens build options. This three piece set applies Havoc Bane to enemies and grants a 20 percent increase to ATK, with an extra 30 percent Resonance Liberation damage bonus for five seconds when triggered.
Version 2.8 introduces a suite of gameplay refinements and technical updates aimed at making Wuthering Waves play more smoothly and responsively. Four new stackable elemental status effects are being added to increase tactical depth and encourage element based synergy in combat:
- Havoc Bane gradually lowers enemy defences when they are struck by successive Havoc type attacks, allowing higher damage output once enough stacks are applied.
- Fusion Burst builds towards a powerful area of effect detonation once stacks reach their maximum threshold.
- Glacio Chafe slows targets with repeated Glacio attacks, eventually freezing enemies completely when stacks are maxed out.
- Electro Flare inflicts periodic Electro damage that intensifies over time, culminating in an empowered Electro Rage surge at full stacks.
System QoL improvements include a new one click Echo Absorption function, which allows nearby Echoes to be collected instantly. The updated Suggest menu now features a Main Echo slot, providing clearer equipment recommendations and simpler build management. The new Auto Supplement feature is designed to simplify upgrades across Resonator Ascension, Weapon Ascension and Skill Upgrade menus. When required materials are missing, the system can display what is needed and make use of Synthesis, Conversion or Supply Packs to bridge the gap. It can also substitute lower rarity materials where possible, helping players complete upgrades more efficiently.
A set of limited time events rounds out the Version 2.8 offering, each providing themed activities and rewards around Solaris 3. The event lineup includes:
- Search for It! Bits of Lahai Roi, a showcase event
- Stranger Things in Honami, a combat focused event
- Gifts of Amber, a seven day login campaign
