Spike Chunsoft has announced Danganronpa 2×2, a new entry in the long running Danganronpa series, set to release in North America and Europe sometime in 2026. The title will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
While this appears to be a clever renaming similar in style to Danganronpa V3 back in 2017, it is not set to be just the fourth major video game instalment in the franchise. Instead, it will combine familiar elements with fresh twists. Alongside a completely new storyline, the release will also include a revamped version of the original Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, rebuilt with updated visuals and production values for modern platforms.
The new scenario revisits the setting and cast of Goodbye Despair, but introduces an altered chain of events triggered by a new incident. With different victims, culprits, and tricks, the scenario is described as offering a volume of content on par with the original story.
The original scenario itself has also been reworked, featuring visual updates and refinements designed to enhance presentation and deliver a smoother gameplay experience. More information is set to be shared in the coming months.
