Rehearsals are now officially underway for Back to the Future: The Musical, which will make its Australian premiere at the Sydney Lyric on Friday 26 September 2025.
Based on the first film in the original trilogy, the stage show follows teenager Marty McFly after he is sent from 1985 to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean created by Dr. Emmett Brown. To get back home, Marty must ensure his future parents meet and fall in love.
The Australian company features Tony Award winner Roger Bart as Doc Brown, who originated the role in the musical adaptation, and newcomer Axel Duffy as Marty McFly. Joining them are Ashleigh Rubenach as Lorraine Baines, Ethan Jones as George McFly, Javon King as both Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, and Thomas McGuane as Biff.
The musical features a book by Bob Gale, co-creator and co-writer of the film trilogy, and new music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. Audience members can also expect several songs from the film, including The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode – alongside many more.
