Following two years of development, South Korean indie studio Team Tapas has launched its roguelike action game Garden of Witches in Early Access on Steam. Following their release of mobile games such as A Girl Adrift and Bistro Heroes, the developer is marking its first step into the PC action genre with a title that seeks to blend combat, storytelling, and handcrafted artistry.
Garden of Witches incorporates familiar roguelike mechanics, including randomised skill trees and repeatable runs, but introduces them within an imagined world populated by unique characters and branching narrative encounters. Upon launch, players can access all five chapters of the main story.
Set in a mysterious, surreal environment, the game follows a witch named Sil as she attempts to gather her peers for a tea party that could prevent the collapse of the Garden. Each witch must be convinced to join—not through dialogue alone, but often through combat, with battles that require pattern recognition and strategic builds. Players enhance Sil’s abilities by collecting and combining elements such as relics, weapons, and synergies, with each run offering opportunities for experimentation.
The game’s artistic direction draws heavily from fairytales, with all visuals hand-drawn to create a stylised, storybook aesthetic. Each witch encountered in the game features a distinct personality, from the mischief-loving Fiena to the deceptively sweet but gruesome undead pair Rims and Berry.
Looking ahead, Team Tapas plans to release additional endgame content in the latter half of 2025 and will continue refining the experience based on community feedback during the Early Access period.
