Following their Sydney season of MJ the Musical, Michael Cassel Group have confirmed that the stage production will head to Melbourne, opening at Her Majesty’s Theatre in September 2025.
The Melbourne season follows the Australian premiere at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre, which began on 8 March 2025 and is set to close on 23 August 2025. Tickets for the Melbourne run will be available via pre-sale from Monday 26 May 2025, with those interested encouraged to join the waitlist via the musical’s official website.
The musical is produced in Australia by Michael Cassel, in collaboration with the original Broadway producers Lia Vollack, John Branca, and John McClain. It is the fifth staging of MJ the Musical since its Broadway debut in February 2022, following the likes of London, Germany and multiple locations in the United States.

Set in 1992, MJ the Musical provides a behind-the-scenes view of the development of Michael Jackson’s Dangerous World Tour. The story is told through the perspective of an MTV journalist given exclusive access to the rehearsal process, and delves into the artistic drive and personal complexities of Jackson’s life during this period, offering more than just performances of his well-known hits – of which you can expect plenty.
