In a win for one of the many major regional events taking place across Australia, The Birdsville Big Red Bash has been named Australia’s Best Festival & Event, taking out the Gold Award at the Australian Tourism Awards held on 21 March 2024.
Recognised for its unique location and community-focused experience, the Birdsville Big Red Bash is billed as one of the world’s most remote music festival. Set in the Simpson Desert in Outback Queensland, the event combines live music with a spirit of adventure and connection, attracting attendees from across the country.
Greg Donovan, founder of the Big Red Bash and Managing Director of the Outback Music Festival Group, acknowledged the recognition, sharing:
We are beyond honoured to receive this recognition at the highest level. This award is a celebration of the unique experience that the Big Red Bash offers – bringing people together in one of Australia’s most remote and awe-inspiring locations to enjoy music, culture and connection. And it’s also a rewarding pat on the back for our team who go above and beyond to ensure festival goers have a truly bucket-list experience.
We hope this award further cements the Big Red Bash as a must-attend event on the Australian festival calendar. We extend our gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey and congratulate all the finalists, which included our sister event the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash, for their outstanding contributions to Australia’s tourism industry.
For those looking to make the trek to Birdsville Big Red Bash in 2025, hold your horses, as the event is taking a break in 2025. Instead, a special event ‘John Williamson Big Red Sunset Concerts‘ will be held on 8 and 9 July atop the Big Red sand dune. The 8 July concert has already sold out, with tickets for the 9 July event selling quickly. Further ticketing information is available via the festival’s official website.
