Kakehashi Games and developer Don Yasa Crew have announced that Sonokuni, a Japanese hip hop-infused biopunk action game, will launch for PC via Steam in just a few days time on 24 March 2025. A Nintendo Switch version is also in the works and is scheduled to release shortly after, on 31 March 2025.
To mark the announcement, a new launch trailer has been released (available to the left), offering a glimpse into the game’s fast-paced action and striking aesthetic.
In Sonokuni, players step into the role of Takeru, a lone assassin navigating a surreal world dominated by a superpower driven by biotechnology. The narrative explores themes of violence, justice, and cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from Japanese mythology.
Developed by Don Yasa Crew, a Japanese hip hop group turned game studio, Sonokuni aims to feature an original soundtrack that punctuates every moment of gameplay, fusing its sharp visual style with the rhythm and energy of its creators’ musical roots.
