KRAFTON, Inc. has released its 2025 roadmap for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, outlining three key development priorities: developing exciting new content, enhancing the live service, and building long-term sustainability, alongside strengthened anti-cheat measures. The company aims to broaden gameplay experiences with fresh content while refining existing systems for improved stability and longevity.
Building Long-Term Sustainability
To optimise performance and graphical fidelity, PUBG will transition to modern consoles by late 2025, improving FPS stability, map loading speeds, and overall visual quality. Alongside this, the game will migrate to Unreal Engine 5, enhancing scalability and long-term development capabilities.
KRAFTON is also introducing the PUBG UGC (User-Generated Content) project, allowing players to create and share custom experiences. This initiative will debut with a team deathmatch-style mode in Custom Matches, expanding player-driven content and engagement.
Enhancing the Live Service
KRAFTON aims to create a seamless experience between Normal Matches, Ranked, and Esports by integrating key elements from casual play into competitive modes. A tier revamp scheduled for June will refine progression, making rank advancement more rewarding.
Regular gunplay updates will arrive every two months, ensuring dynamic meta adjustments. Additionally, a large-scale rebalancing update will be introduced annually to encourage diverse weapon usage. Underutilised weapons like sniper rifles, LMGs, and handguns will receive improvements to increase their viability, alongside new weapons and attachments in development.
AI opponents will also receive enhancements, improving their decision-making. Bots will now respond to the Blue Zone, take cover more effectively, and deploy smoke grenades, making AI encounters more strategic and engaging.
Developing Exciting New Content
Rather than introducing a brand-new map, KRAFTON is reworking existing environments to offer fresh gameplay opportunities. At the end of the year, select maps will receive major world updates, while destructible terrain will be added to Taego, Miramar, and Erangel, increasing interactivity.
New gameplay elements include a camouflage net for vehicle concealment, an improved Flare Gun UI, and interactive explosive gas tanks that release smoke when detonated. Animal AI will also be introduced to enhance environmental immersion.
Arcade modes will see expansion with the return of POBG (PlayerOmnom’s Battlegrounds) and the introduction of Project Cyclops, a roguelike mode built on the POBG framework. Other planned content includes SLB: Miramar and collaborations with automotive brands and artists, bringing exclusive partnerships to the game.
The introduction of the Contender System, a high-end character customisation feature, aims to provide players with deeper personalisation options.
Strengthening Anti-Cheat Measures
KRAFTON is reinforcing its anti-cheat systems by developing advanced detection and defence mechanisms to counter evolving exploits. Enhanced Windows OS protection and real-time machine learning models will be implemented to detect and mitigate unauthorised software usage. Additional account security measures are also in development to reduce the risk of hacking and unfair gameplay.
