Starting today, Waze users can now select Thrall, one of World of Warcraft’s and Warcraft III’s most iconic characters, as a new sidekick option in the navigation app. This update is part of the “Drive With World of Warcraft” initiative, introduced to celebrate the game’s upcoming 20th anniversary.
Users can also customise their in-app experience with a red drake as their vehicle icon and choose between two visual versions of Thrall—representing the Horde or Alliance factions from the game. While the Thrall sidekick suite is available worldwide, Thrall’s voice navigation is offered exclusively in English.
Voiced by Chris Metzen, who not only has voiced Thrall since Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos but also the Executive Creative Director of Warcraft, Thrall provides guidance with memorable lines like, “Breathe—this is not the end of the world” during traffic jams, and describes U-turns as “a clever strategy to fool any pursuers on our tail”. Being told to breathe during traffic jams, honestly, is something we all need to be told at times!
To activate Thrall as a sidekick, English-speaking users can select “Pick a sidekick” in the main menu and choose “Drive with World of Warcraft.” From there, they can enable Thrall’s voice, change the car icon, and select their Horde or Alliance mood. In other regions, users will find a banner in the app to opt into the World of Warcraft experience.
