The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) has unveiled its 2025 program, promising an exploration of music that spans genres and themes of spirituality, philosophy, cinematic grandeur and more. From classic symphonies to contemporary collaborations, the program is set to engage audiences with performances that cross the boundaries of traditional orchestral music.
Opening in February with Rite of Spring, the season will feature performances from gravity-defying artists from Circa and violinist Kristian Winther, QSO’s 2025 artist-in-residence. The season’s theme, described by Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici as “spirituality and the world beyond,” will encompass a range of musical expressions, from Giuseppe Verdi to Hans Zimmer.
A series of collaborations will also enrich the season. Renowned actor and director John Bell will narrate a concert inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and Westminster Abbey organist James O’Donnell will feature in The Royal Organist. International soloists such as violinist James Ehnes, rising Swedish star Daniel Lozakovich and pianists Sir Stephen Hough, Alexander Gavrylyuk and Javier Perianes will also join the orchestra throughout the year.
In addition to classical works, QSO will bring to life popular film scores with Art of the Score: The Music of Hans Zimmer and the usually incredible live-orchestra film screenings featuring James Bond: Skyfall, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and Home Alone.
Subscription packages for QSO’s 2025 season are available now, with individual tickets on sale from 11 November 2024. To discover all events which make up the season and to purchase a season pass, visit the Queensland Symphony Orchestra website.
