Spike Chunsoft has announced that BAKERU, a Japan-inspired action game, will be released as a digital download for the Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam) in North America and PAL regions on 3 September 2024. The game has been developed by Good-Feel, with Etsunobu Ebisu serving as producer and Tadanori Tsukawaki as director.
In BAKERU, players take on the role of the titular character, Bakeru the Tanuki, who embarks on a journey across Japan’s 47 prefectures to combat the sinister Festival Troops. The narrative kicks off when Bakeru meets Sun, a member of the Issun clan, on a stormy night, leading him into a battle to restore peace to Japan. The antagonist, Oracle Saitaro, and his Festival Troops aim to take over Japan through a mysterious festival, prompting Bakeru and Sun to fight back.
The game will feature new attacks such as “Hurricane” and “Spinning Top,” alongside a new enemy character, the Lantern Boss.
Players can expect battles involving fairy tale heroes, giant robots, and the opportunity to wield a taiko drum as a weapon. Additionally, securing a Henge license will allow Bakeru to use his Tanuki transformation powers to shapeshift into various forms.
