Skybound Games, in collaboration with Red Hook Studios, has announced the upcoming release of a physical edition for Darkest Dungeon II on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. Scheduled to be available on 22 October 2024. Pre-orders for the physical edition are now open at various retailers.
The physical edition of Darkest Dungeon II will include:
- A Nintendo Switch game cartridge, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X disc
- A build-your-own stagecoach model
- A redemption code for the Darkest Dungeon II soundtrack
First released into Early Access on the Epic Games Store in October 2021, Darkest Dungeon II is a rogue-lite, turn-based game that continues to evolve with regular updates. The game includes new 3D visuals, an enhanced combat system, and a variety of new features and content, including its first DLC, The Binding Blade, released in December 2023.
Ian Howe, Managing Partner at Skybound Games, expressed excitement about the collaboration, sharing:
We first connected with Red Hook Studios last year to discuss bringing the physical console versions of Darkest Dungeon II to market. We shared a common vision of building upon the legacy of the first game, through an intricate, highly collectible edition that fans of the game would enjoy. We hope players love these boxes as much as we have loved designing them.
Tyler Sigman, Co-Founder and Design Director of Red Hook Studios, further highlighted the importance of physical media, stating:
We’re thrilled to announce the release of the physical edition of Darkest Dungeon II. While digital downloads dominate the market, physical media remains a vital cornerstone for preserving gaming culture and offering fans a tangible way to connect with the gaming worlds they love. Skybound helped us breathe life into a physical edition that delivers the immersive and challenging experience of Darkest Dungeon II but also provides a collectible keepsake for enthusiasts who value the legacy of physical games.
