Due to the all-digital nature of games on Steam, many games that go down the Limited Edition route tend to focus exclusively on consoles, forgoing the PC entirely – or offering their own takes on, for example, a ‘Digital Deluxe’ edition. But Spike Chunsoft confirmed during their Anime Expo 2024 panel that the enhanced re-release of their lucid-noir detective adventure game, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus, will be receiving a physical Lucid-Noir Limited Edition for Steam in North America and Europe on 1 October 2024 – in addition to the usual digital offerings.

Available as part of the Lucid-Noir Limited Edition, How to Be a Master Detective: A Halara Nightmare Case is an original, newly-written novel about Halara Nightmare, a Master Detective with the Forensic Forte “Postcognition,” and serves as a prequel to the main story of the game. While investigating a case, Halara is trapped by snow inside a mountain cabin alongside violent prisoners. Then an incomprehensible murder occurs…with no witnesses. In an extreme situation where doubt looms, the eye of a genius private detective will reveal the truth.The novel is written by Takekuni Kitayama under the supervision of Kazutaka Kodaka, main scenario writer for the game. It contains no spoilers and can be read before playing the game.
For those new to the game, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE is a detective game and visual novel, developed by the creative team behind Danganronpa. It follows Yuma Kokohead, an amnesiac detective-in-training, and Shinigami, the spirit haunting him, as they tackle unsolved mysteries in a strange city caged by unending rain. Originally released as Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE for Nintendo Switch in June 2023 to, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus includes enhancements and additional features for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
