One night, eight teenagers,
A remote mountain on the anniversary of their friend’s mysterious death
The power’s out, there’s no phone reception and you’re trying to get the blonde cheerleader to notice you.
What could possibly go wrong?
Just shy out from its 10th anniversary, the interactive drama horror game Until Dawn is poised for a remake, scheduled to release later this year on the PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. The original game, developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2015 was a memorable experience, with the remake being developed by Ballistic Moon set to bring it back for a new horror-laden run, to be newcomers and seasoned veterans of the game alike.
The upcoming remake aims to elevate the experience it originally provided, with Ballistic Moon seeking to provide more emotional depth, an undated visual presentation (with new and improved animations) and a completely revamped soundscape – all powered by the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.
The remake introduces several notable improvements and features, including a broader cinematic tonal colour palette and new narrative perspectives to deepen the emotional impact of the story. Players can expect to explore the eerie Blackwood Mountain with greater freedom, courtesy of a new third-person camera perspective, which unveils previously unseen areas and introduces new interactions and collectables. Additionally, the game’s sound design has received a comprehensive overhaul, featuring a new score by acclaimed horror composer Mark Korven, further enriching the atmospheric tension.
Expect to hear more about this remake in the coming months.
