During this morning’s PlayStation Showcase digital livestream, Square Enix were in attendance in part to reveal FOAMSTARS, a new four-on-four online shooter game for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Sharing some design approaches similar to Splatoon, albeit using foam and more human-like characters over the ink and Inklings, this might be the more family friendly shooting experience that some players are after.
The announcement trailer, available in full below, showcases a number of colourful characters participating in foam-on-foam battles within a number of different planned arenas.
In FOAMSTARS, foam is considered to be an essential resource. The foam can be utilized to create slippery surfaces for high-speed navigation around the arenas, construct defensive structures or high vantage points, and be used as a weapon to foam up the opposition in order to win the match.
Square Enix and the game’s development team are remaining very tight-lipped on what else the game entails, but keep an eye out for additional announcements in the coming months.
