Arts festivals have, for the last couple of years, been very risky ventures to undertake given the ongoing risk of COVID-19 meaning that performers may find themselves trapped in a different state or lockdowns render months of hard work invalid. But fortunately, Queensland has a layer of consistency where festivals still strive to go ahead. The Restrung Festival is one such festival, announcing today that they will be taking over Metro Arts’ new West End venue from 14 to 16 October. As its name implies, the event strives to treat audiences to a ” banquet of boundary-pushing, strings-driven music and art”, with this year’s emphasis being on local artists.
According to the Restrung Festival team, the three-day program “features a dazzling program of celebrated and emerging talent, packed with bespoke events, unique collaborations and bold new works”. The event will consist of several paid events in addition to free installations and pop-up performances that anyone in the community is invited to enjoy.
Restrung Festival seeks to explore “the spaces within and between musical and artistic genres of classical, electronica, folk, jazz, rock, pop, minimalism and more” and they describe the program as not being able to be “put into a box or bound by a single word – the bill has been curated specifically to challenge people’s perceptions”.

I’m so excited to announce the fourth edition of Restrung Festival has found its home at the incredible new Metro Arts venue this October.
For the uninitiated, this is an experience for the savvy listener and the curious at heart. The 2021 festival will be a roller coaster ride of string-centric art music and immersive installations.
