Queensland Theatre Outline Ambitious 2021 Season

Like many performing arts organisations around the world, Queensland Theatre was greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic which ground their live performances to a halt. While they continued to engage with their community through webinars and are currently presenting a COVID-Safe season of Mouthpiece at QPAC’s Playhouse, 2021 is shaping up to be an ambitious year where they try to get back to at least some degree of normality.

Queensland Theatre today launched their 2021 season, consisting of plays carried across from their postponed 2020 season and a collection of new works. Featured as part of the season are Our Town by Thornton Wilder, Triple X by Glace Chase, Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, White Pearl by Anchuli Felicia King, Prima Facie by Suzie Miller, Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe, Return to the Dirt by Steve Pirie and Robyn Archer: An Australian Songbook.

Queensland Theatre Outline Ambitious 2021 Season 1

While Queensland Theatre performances are usually (somewhat) evenly split between QPAC’s Playhouse / Cremorne Theatres and Queensland Theatre’s Billie Brown Theatre – in 2021 all but one season will be held in the latter. It is unknown why this split is so one-sided this year, whether it has to do with flexibility around uncertain public health recommendations in 2021 or indicative of smaller scale performances next year.

Season Ticket packages consisting of 3, 5 or 7 plays are currently purchasable via the Queensland Theatre website.
