Reimagining the novel works of Japanese author Reki Kawahara and moreso its anime adaptation Sword Art Online: Alicization, video game developer Aquria and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment are currently working on Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris. In development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC – this will follow the events of the anime’s storyline, as you take control of protagonist Kirito and explore the “Underworld”.
In an announcement today, Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed that Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris will be launched on all three platforms physically (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) and digitally (Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC) on 22 May 2020.
The game will focus on Kirito and Eugeo’s quest to find their long lost friend Alice. As they travel through the underworld, players will discover locations such as the Mildea Plains and Vizeah Valle. Obstructing your journey are a range of enemies, including the Integrity Knights – powerful soldiers of the cathederal. Bandai Namco have confirmed that three of these knights appearing will be Fanatio Synthesis Two, Deusolbert Synthesis Seven and Eldrie Synthesis Thirty-one.
This is but one in a number of video game adaptations currently released or in-development based on Sword Art Online. Others include Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, Sword Art Online: Lost Song, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, Accel World vs. Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight and Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. On average these games have been okay but nothing special… will Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris break that trend and be something memorable? Time will tell…
