Madman Anime Festival 2016 – 2017
Back in 2016, Australian anime publisher Madman Entertainment held their inaugural Madman Anime Festival (Aka MadFest), going from just attending the various pop culture and anime conventions across the country to running one themselves. The question at the time lingered… was this going to be a one off event or could we see this being a new annual addition to the calendar of anime fans? This year they tripled their output, opting to hold events in not only Melbourne but Perth and Brisbane as well – both of which lacked a major state anime convention.
Having had the opportunity to attend this year’s Brisbane leg of the convention, I thought that even though it was not as big as some of the broader-scale pop culture conventions in Australia, it offered a great number of things to see and do, and gave each special guest a greater purpose to being in attendance rather than just to do a Q&A and sign autographs. I concluded my article on the convention by saying:
Here’s hoping that this is only the start to an annual Madman Anime Festival in Brisbane, and that they continue to expand their range of guest and panel opportunities.
My hopes were answered today, with Madman Entertainment confirming that three additional Madman Anime Festival conventions will take place in 2018.
Madman Anime Festival 2018
Madman Entertainment today announced they will be bringing MadFest back to Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne during 2018. Although not sharing too much insight into the guests and happenings of the events, they have stated:
Attendees can expect to see new exhibits, activities and guests, and experience exclusive screenings and premieres, incredible cosplay, fan events and gatherings, and much, much more.
One confirmed offering for Perth and Brisbane is that there will be an exhibition based on Cowboy Bebop. Everything else is to be revealed in the New Year.
