Unveiled during the Summer Game Fest Live Showcase, Square Enix has announced Killer Inn, a multiplayer murder mystery action game that challenges players to survive a night of deception, alliances, and deadly stakes. Offering a blend of social deduction and survival mechanics, Killer Inn is slated for a closed beta test on Steam, with sign-ups now open for those interested in getting an early look.
Set within a grand, mysterious castle operated by a secretive organisation known as Astra, Killer Inn drops 24 players into a contest where riches await the survivors—if they can make it through the night. Each participant is assigned one of two hidden roles: Wolves or Lambs. Wolves are the hunters, determined to eliminate their fellow guests, while Lambs must band together, collect resources, uncover the identities of the killers, and attempt to either fight back or escape.
The gameplay focuses heavily on social deduction. Lambs are encouraged to explore the castle, search for evidence, and piece together the identities of the Wolves by examining clues left behind by victims. Wolves, on the other hand, must maintain their cover, deceive others, and strike strategically to whittle down the competition without drawing suspicion.
Beyond deduction, the game introduces a range of interactive mechanics. Players can complete quests, loot chests for equipment, set traps, steal from others, and upgrade their gear to gain an advantage. These systems are designed to encourage adaptability, offering multiple paths to survival or victory depending on how events unfold during the match.
To support varied playstyles, Killer Inn features a cast of over 20 playable characters. Each comes with their own strengths, weaknesses, and backstories, giving players a choice of personality and tactical nuance as they navigate the tense atmosphere of the castle.
