Ratata Arts has confirmed that Ratatan, a rhythm-based roguelite adventure from the creators of Patapon, will enter Early Access on Steam from 25 July 2025. Ahead of this release, a free demo is now available for players to experience the beat-driven battles and colourful 2D animation style that define the game.
A new Early Access trailer (below) was also unveiled to coincide with the demo’s launch on 5 June. The demo includes content from the game’s first two worlds – Pirates of the Parabbean and Yeehawler Mountain – as well as access to four playable Ratatan characters. It also features online co-op support for up to four players.
Created by Hiroyuki Kotani and developed by Ratata Arts in collaboration with TVT Co., Ltd., Ratatan blends side-scrolling action with rhythm-based gameplay. Players lead a quirky army of creatures called Cobun, using rhythmic commands to issue orders and navigate battles across the world of Redo. Strategic movement and timing are key, with the game’s ‘Fever Mode’ amplifying both the soundtrack and on-screen action for players who keep in sync with the beat.
Set on the island of Rataport, the story follows the Ratatans—musical creatures driven by a shared desire to reach The Everafter and meet a legendary Goddess. Armed with magical instruments known as Melodium, they set out across a whimsical world, battling enemies and growing their ranks through rhythm and perseverance.
Ratatan also features hand-drawn 2D animation and a soundtrack composed by Kemmei Adachi, known for his previous work on Patapon. British composer David Wise also contributes a guest track.
