Ubisoft has shared the first gameplay details for Anno 117: Pax Romana, the next entry in the long-running city-building franchise. Set during the height of the Roman Empire, the game is being developed by Ubisoft Mainz and is scheduled for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and Windows PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect. The game will support both cross-play and cross-progression across platforms.
In Anno 117: Pax Romana, players will assume the role of a newly appointed governor, tasked by the Emperor to develop and manage provinces across the Empire. The campaign will span a variety of regions, from the central Roman territory of Latium to the more remote Celtic lands of Albion.
Players should go in expecting to have the freedom to design and expand their cities, deciding everything from tax policy to regional architecture. Strategic choices extend to diplomacy, trade, military engagements, and cultural integration, such as whether to adopt local Celtic traditions or enforce Roman customs. The game’s narrative will also allow players to either remain loyal to the Emperor or pursue rebellion, with consequences that shape the story.
Ubisoft describes Anno 117: Pax Romana as featuring a large degree of flexibility and detail in city-building. Provinces will be populated with dynamic elements, from everyday street activity to major events in the colosseum. Players can develop multiple interconnected cities across various provinces, utilising a wide range of terrain.
