Sydney Film Festival has announced an exclusive in-conversation event with video game creator Hideo Kojima and Australian filmmaker George Miller. This one-night-only session will take place at 5pm on Saturday 14 June 2025 at Sydney Town Hall’s Centennial Hall, weeks out from the official release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, due to launch on PlayStation 5 on 26 June 2025.
Co-presented by Screen NSW, the event will explore the creative intersections between cinema and video games, featuring two renowned storytellers whose work has pushed the boundaries of their respective mediums. Kojima, known for the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding series, will be joined on stage by George Miller, the Oscar-winning director of Mad Max: Fury Road and Happy Feet.
Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley described the pairing as a rare opportunity:
This is a rare and exciting meeting of two creative minds who have reshaped their respective industries. Kojima and Miller’s shared love of cinema and storytelling will make for an unforgettable conversation at this year’s Festival.
Kyas Hepworth, Head of Screen NSW, added:
The Sydney Film Festival continues to push the boundaries of storytelling, and this unmissable event is a testament to their bold vision. Screen NSW is thrilled to support this world exclusive in-conversation event with Australian icon Dr George Miller and renowned video game creator Hideo Kojima, which highlights the synergies across the NSW Screen and Digital Games Strategy, the Sydney Film Festival, and the screen and digital games industry. This is an event that will inspire, entertain and connect audiences through the power of imagination.
Sydney Film Festival will run from 4 to 15 June 2025, with the full program and tickets for the Kojima–Miller event now available via the event’s official website.
