What sparks true love? For some, it’s shared laughter or a perfect date. For others, it’s a video game about a lamb cult leader who gathers devoted followers, performs dark rituals, and leads them in faith-building quests… or endless devotion. At PAX Australia, two couples embraced this unusual inspiration as they tied the knot in ceremonies themed around the indie hit Cult of the Lamb, developed by the Australian creative team at Massive Monster.
PAX Australia hosted its first-ever weddings at the Melbourne Convention Centre, where two couples were married in a custom-built temple themed after Cult of the Lamb. The ceremonies, titled “Unholy Matrimonies,” were officiated by none other than the game’s protagonist, the Lamb. Thousands of attendees witnessed the unique nuptials, hopefully making it a memorable event for the happy couples. Oh, and no literal sacrifices were required!
The first couple, Tanner and Jasper, were married at 11am on Sunday, 13 October. The pair, who are part of the Australian Furry community, exchanged vows in specially designed fursuits—Tanner as a Gryphon and Jasper as a Jackalope. The couple, who met through a mutual friend and have been together for two years, found Cult of the Lamb to be a fitting theme for their big day. “We felt it would be very fitting to get married by a game that we both enjoy very much and actually helped us to get to know each other in our early part of our relationship,” said Tanner. Jasper added, “There isn’t a day we aren’t talking about the wedding and all the amazing people who are doing all this hard work to make this life-changing event happen”.
Later that day, at 3pm, Shania and Blake, high school sweethearts who have been together for over 13 years, exchanged vows in more traditional wedding ceremony attire. Blake shared how the couple jumped at the chance to have a unique wedding experience. “When we saw the opportunity arise on Twitter we thought, what else would be a more ‘us’ way to celebrate our love together!” Shania echoed the sentiment, saying, “We always wanted to have a big memorable wedding, and over the thirteen years that we’ve been together we could have NEVER thought of something so creative and unique. Everything that the Cult of the Lamb team has done for us has been so incredibly supportive.”
