Barbie Project Friendship Game Announced for October Release

Video games on the iconic Barbie doll and multimedia brand have always been… interesting to say the least, and for those looking to add another such game to their collection, Matel Inc. and Outright Games are partnering up to release a new title on 25 October 2024 titled Barbie Project Friendship. Celebrating the 65th anniversary of Barbie, yes she is technically old enough to be a grandmother at this point, the game being released for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam aims to take players on a heartwarming journey centred around friendship and community.

In Barbie Project Friendship, players will join Barbie “Malibu” Roberts and Barbie “Brooklyn” Roberts as they work to renovate the Malibu Waves Community Center with help from friends and family. The game features various activities, including making ice cream with Ken, renovating the arcade with Teresa, and customising scooters with Nikki. Players can unlock new outfits and explore different areas of the community centre.

The game is supported by Ann Austen, head writer of the Barbie TV series, and includes the original English voice cast from Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures and Barbie A Touch of Magic. It offers both solo play and a two-player local co-op mode.

Commenting on this announcement, Erika Winterholler, Head of Business Development, Digital Gaming at Mattel shared:

We are looking forward to bringing more Barbie adventures to a new generation of young players on modern gaming platforms. With Barbie Project Friendship, players can expect to create cherished memories with friends, embodying the spirit of fun, friendship, and creativity that Barbie represents.

With Outright Games’ Managing Director, Stephanie Malham, also sharing:

It is an honour to work with Mattel on such a profound and beloved brand. Barbie is an icon and role model for children across the globe, and we are so excited to bring the adventures of Malibu and Brooklyn to life.

With a focus on youth-oriented brands, Outright Games is the developer behind a number of games based on franchises including Bluey, PJ Masks, and more.
