With Final Fantasy XVI‘s long awaited release less than a month away, Square Enix used this morning’s PlayStation Showcase to do an early debut of the game’s launch trailer, headlined ‘Salvation’. The trailer sets to provide players with a fresh peek into the struggles and truths that lie within the realm of Valisthea, a central locale in the game. Notably, the trailer features Clive Rosfield, the protagonist, and his allies, as they commence their fight to reclaim control of their destiny.
Spearheaded by Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki “YoshiP” Yoshida, Final Fantasy XVI sets out to offer an intricate dark fantasy story set in the new realm of Valisthea. This region, illuminated by the light of the Mothercrystals, is on the brink of devastation due to the spread of the Blight.
The fate of Valisthea rests in the hands of the Eikons, colossal summoned beasts, and their Dominants, individuals blessed with the power to summon and command them. The narrative follows Clive Rosfield, a warrior honored as the “First Shield of Rosaria,” duty-bound to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Phoenix’s Dominant. However, a calamitous event propels Clive towards a path of vengeance against the Dark Eikon known as Ifrit.
The release of the above launch trailer does not mean an end to pre-release festivities. Square Enix has scheduled a Final Fantasy XVI Pre-Launch Celebration Livestream on 11 June 2023 via their official Twitch channel. During this event, fans should expect to have an opportunity to get more insights into the game ahead of its release.
This new instalment in the Final Fantasy franchise is set to be released globally on the PlayStation 5 starting 22 June 2023.
