Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 Goes Live on Servers

Bid farewell to Star Citizen Alpha 3.17! Following a rather extensive period through initial Evocati and later on more public PTU testing, Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 is now live on all game servers – being what is pitched as the “Biggest Star Citizen Update Yet”. Running with the subtitle ‘Lasting Legacies’, the main focus of this update is not necessarily the new ships or front-facing features, but rather persistent entity streaming, described by developer Cloud Imperium Games as follows:

Persistent Entity Streaming is a huge update to Star Citizen’s core technology that enables the next generation of cutting-edge features and gameplay. From items remaining after death to visiting new star systems in future releases, it’s a major step toward a fully realized Persistent Universe that evolves with the players that inhabit it.

Other major additions to the Star Citizen universe in this update include Hull Scraping (The first stage of ship salvaging mechanics), vehicle ‘soft death’, introduction of the new Drake Vulture and RSI Scorpius Antares crafts, a refactoring of the in-game cargo system, the addition of a Gen12 Graphics Renderer to the game’s core engine, new racetracks and more.

If you are a backer of Star Citizen, now may be a good time to dive into The Verse again and see what’s new.
