Star Citizen Re-Explores Module-Based Ships with the RSI Galaxy

For the past few years, Cloud Imperium Games have not focused too much on selling modules for different ships in Star Citizen, instead focusing on selling fully complete crafts – sometimes with the potential of modularity in the future. This has all changed with the RSI Galaxy, Roberts Space Industries’ new modular craft which is now available to purchase via the latest Star Citizen pledge sale.

While more modules are due to be released “at a later date”, there are currently three confirmed modules that players will be able to switch out in their RSI Galaxy – ‘Cargo’ (Maximise your freight capacity for serious payloads and cargo runs), ‘Med Bay (Turn your Galaxy into a fully-loaded mobile medical facility), and ‘Refinery’ (Your Galaxy becomse the beating heart of mining ops of all sizes).

Base Craft

The base RSI Galaxy craft contains:

  • Foredeck: Home to the command bridge, state-of-the-art crew habitation, and the ship’s docking collars, the foredeck is the brain of the Galaxy that keeps the whole operation running smoothly.
  • Afterdeck: Serving as a hangar capable of accommodating small to mid-size vehicles, the afterdeck ensures your expeditions and missions are always well-scouted and supplied.
  • Weapons: 3x Remote Dual S5 turrets, and 2x Racks + 4x S2 Missiles

The ship comes in at 110m in length, 60m in width and 22m in height, supporting a crew of 6 players or NPCs. It should be said that this is subject to change.

The base model, sans any module, is available for 350 USD (Warbond) or $380 USD if you use any amount of store credit.

Cargo Module

The cargo module, available for $70 USD (Standalone Module), $415 USD (Warbond w/ Ship) or $450 USD (Credit w/ Ship) contains the following features:

Tractor Cranes: Effortlessly shift and move cargo on any size
Hangar Access: Direct access to the Afterdeck
Industrial Lift: Get cargo or vehicles easily on or off-board
Massive Hold: A staggering 512 SCU

Med Bay Module

The med bay module, available for $90 USD (Standalone Module), $430 USD (Warbond w/ Ship) or $470 USD (Credit w/ Ship) contains the following features:

Tier 1 Med Bays: When the condition is critical, you’re covered
Tier 2 Med Bays: Treat more serious ailments
Tier 3 Med Bays: Stabilize minor injuries
Hangar Access: Direct access to the Afterdeck
Lifelift: Safely deliver injured personnel to or from the med bay

Refinery Module

The refinery module, available for $80 USD (Standalone Module), $425 USD (Warbond w/ Ship) or $460 USD (Credit w/ Ship) contains the following features:

Command Console: Complete control over the entire operation
Hangar Access: Direct access to the Afterdeck
Processor 1: Process raw or into saleable material at the push of a button
Processor 2: Dual processors refine in half the time
Mineral Extractors: Pull raw ore into the system for processing

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than half a billion USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
