Two competitors in the science fiction online game market, developers/publishers CCP Games (Best known for EVE Online) and Cloud Imperium Games (The development team behind Star Citizen) have announced the two companies will unite in the UK for Battle of the Bricks – a fundraising event for Extra Life, a charity supporting Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
So what is Battle of the Bricks? A team from each company will be tasked with hand-building replicas of popular ships from sci-fi spacefaring MMOs EVE Online and Star Citizen while completing difficult challenges. This competition will take place on the Star Citizen Twitch channel from Friday 22 July 2022 at 5pm UTC, with everyone invited to “watch CCP and Cloud Imperium Games build ships while eating the world’s hottest chili peppers, revealing embarrassing photos, and more”.
Throughout June 2022, EVE Online and Star Citizen players submitted digital recreations of their favorite spacecraft to be considered for the charity live stream event. The winning EVE Online ship was the Primae, while Star Citizen’s choice was the Banu Merchantman.
As various donation milestones are met during the stream, CCP and Cloud Imperium Games will spin a wheel to determine the activity both teams must attempt. Activities for the stream range from wholesome to zany, including EVE Online or Star Citizen in-game ship giveaways, trying rotten shark, eating mystery-flavored jelly beans, and and more. Fundraising for the event has now commenced, and will remain open until 31 December 2022, via Tiltify, although I wouldnt expect too much movement until the event itself.
