Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 Rolls Out to First Wave of PTU Players

Keen to try out some of the new functionality introduced in Star Citizen Alpha 3.17: Fueling Fortunes? Developer Cloud Imperium Games have concluded their Evocati testing period and have rolled out the game to the first wave of PTU testers – namely those who pay a monthly fee for a subscription membership and those who are considered Concierge Backers (ie. those who spend $1000 or more on the game).

Wave 2 backers comprises of active players and those who submit issues through official channels (who in reality, should be in Wave 1) while all players with a game package will be eligible to test as part of Wave 3. What is presented on the PTU should not be considered a final version of the Alpha, but rather a beta test of the Alpha test.

According to the game’s development roadmap, Alpha 3.17 of Star Citizen is set to include features including:

  • The MISC Hull A Cargo Ship and (possibly) the RSI Scorpius Heavy Fighter
  • An update to the DNA Head Textures system
  • New locations: Lorville Hospital: Maria Pure of Heart and clinics on space stations
  • Coffee shop vendors
  • Mining Gadgets
  • Ship to Ship Refueling
  • Selling items to the shops

CIG have also shared two ‘Patch Watch’ posts focusing on further Alpha 3.17 features, which can be read HERE and HERE.

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $435 million USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
