When you heard that a first-party game was being developed or published by Sony for a PlayStation platform, it used to be safe to say that it would never be available on any other platform. While to this date it is still a safe assumption that this will be the case, Sony Interactive Entertainment has been dabbling in the PC market on the odd occasion in recent years. The latest title to receive the PC port treatment is the 2018 action-adventure game God of War – initially developed by Santa Monica Studio for the PlayStation 4.
After selling just shy of 20 million copies of the game on the PlayStation 4 alone, it has been confirmed that God of War (2018) will be available on the PC from 14 January 2022.
The PC version includes a wide range of graphical presets and options so players can fine-tune their visual experience based on their setup. From higher resolution shadows and improved scene space reflections to enhancements to the ambient occlusion pipeline with GTAO and SSDO – God of War on the PC is pitched as being able to “create striking visual quality unique to the platform”. In addition, there will be full integration with NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling, so players hopefully
“won’t have to sacrifice graphical settings and output resolutions for high performance in God of War”.
The developers are planning to offer controller support and keyboard mapping customisation, with both DualShock 4 and Dualsense controllers supported in terms of the former.
The PC version will also contain the following digital content bundled in with the game, primarily cosmetic goodies:
- Death’s Vow Armor Sets for Kratos and Atreus
- Exile’s Guardian Shield Skin
- Buckler of the Forge Shield Skin
- Shining Elven Soul Shield Skin
- Dökkenshieldr Shield Skin
