Inside The Branding Of Star Citizen’s Verse

When it comes to playing the alpha of ambitious space-simulation game Star Citizen, much of the time I spend wandering around the different landing zone cities, look at all the details the development team put into crafting each world. One of the things which have continually impressed me is their decisions around in-universe branding, not just around the major corporations and ship manufacturers, but down to the level of a simple coffee shop.

As part of their content calendar for backers, the development team released the above “Inside Star Citizen: Logo to Go” video. This video, among other things, seeks to highlight “the role logos play in creating an immersive gameplay experience”. These logos range from those sticking out the side of a building, representing a chain of fast-food stores, or even individual food items such as the CAL-O-MEAL Protein Bars or Twyn’s Gourmet Sandwiches. The video is only 10-and-a-half minutes long, so doesn’t go too in-depth, but it is nice to see the thought processes behind something that players may not always appreciate.

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $343 million USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
