Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 1.3.0 Goes Live – Time To Explore the Ocean

My villager isn't amused....

For an Animal Crossing game set on an island rather than a traditional village, it has been surprising that villagers haven’t been able to do anything in the sea other than fish up until now in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This all changed today, with Nintendo releasing Update 1.3.0 of the life simulation game earlier today.

Following its official announcement from Nintendo last week, this update allows your villager to don a wetsuit and explore their seas surrounding their island. While this is perfect for villagers in the Northern Hemisphere who are enjoying the warm summer months at the moment… perhaps villagers in the Southern Hemisphere are more miffed about spending time in the frigid water. Not that they will show this, of course.

A small number of changes and fixes are introduced in this update. The official patch notes can be found below, outlining all changes made to the game:

Ver. 1.3.0 (Released July 2, 2020)

The software has been updated if you see “Ver. 1.3.0” in the upper-right corner of the title screen.

  • General Updates
    • Players can now wear a wet suit and go diving in the ocean.
    • Players can now catch sea creatures while diving, which they can then donate to the museum.
    • Players can now encounter new visiting characters somewhere on the island.
    • Nook Miles can now be traded for new items.
    • New seasonal items have been added to the Nook Shopping catalog, available for limited time only.
  • Fixed the following issues:
    • The names of several fish have been fixed in Korean and Simplified Chinese.
    • Addressed issues to further ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.

Developed by Nintendo, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available to purchase exclusively for the Nintendo Switch worldwide.
