First introduced in the Nippon Ichi Software developed RPG Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and becoming a mascot character of the company ever since, a Prinny (Plural: Prinnies) is the soul of a human criminal forced down into the Netherworld after death and forced to perform manual labour in the form of a demonic stuffed penguin until their sentences are up. Known for being weak with a penchant of exploding if thrown, they are hardly main character material. But when there are a thousand of them… perhaps they may pass as one collectively.
In March this year, Nippon Ichi Software America (NIS America) announced that they would be bringing the formerly PSP-exclusive platformer games Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? and Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! onto the Nintendo Switch later this year in one collection titled Prinny 1•2: Exploded and Reloaded. In each game, you will take control of a 1,000-member strong Prinny Squad across the hazardous landscapes of the Netherworld, forced to find two items valuable to Master Etna – the Ultra Dessert and her stolen panties.
Many Japanese and English voice actors have contributed their voices to the Prinnies over the years, and it is time for even more to do so. NIS America has recently commenced their new ‘Can I Really Be The Voice of Prinny?’ competition, where two winners will have their voice be on rotation for the playable Prinny and be included under the ‘Special Thanks’ section of the game’s end credits.
