A fortnight ago, Square Enix launched their teaser website for Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.2: Echoes of a Fallen Star, the second main post-expansion patch for the MMORPG which will be available to all players from the middle of next month. While the original page did little more than announce the title and key artwork for this patch, today’s update provides preview screenshots and slightly more in-depth details about a few of the key features being introduced. This will very likely encompass the new Trial for this update titled “Cinder Drift”, which will pit groups of eight players against the Ruby Weapon. While unlikely to maintain its “superboss” status from Final Fantasy VII, Ruby Weapon is a returning boss from the broader Final Fantasy franchise albeit with a new backstory.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the third expansion pack to be released for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. It is currently available on the PC, Mac and PlayStation 4 platforms. While nothing is confirmed to date – there have been murmurs in recent months about potential future releases on the Xbox One or Nintendo Switch.
