Alongside announcing their release date for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (February 23 2016) in early-September, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal also unveiled their “Augment Your Pre-Order” campaign for the game. This would see the pre-order benefits being available in increasing tiers, which would be unlocked as more copies of the game were reserved worldwide in select countries. The goal was to “give fans an opportunity to collectively expand and enhance their own customized Day One Edition”. This was set to provide perks such as a 4-day early release, a mission pack and either a digital comic book or novella depending on one’s personal preference.
Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal have since revised this program, following negative reception from the community. They have instead decided to remove pre-order tiers, remove the ability to bring the game’s release date forward and essentially make all of the associated content with the program available to anyone who pre-orders or purchases a Day 1 Edtion of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
The Day 1 edition will now include the Covert Agent packs (Intruder, Enforcer and Classic), a digital OST sampler, an extra in-game mission and digital books (Artbook, Comic Book and Novella).
