In an announcement that I am sure some were not expecting given how long it has been since the last Yakuza release outside of Japan, but Sega have announced that they will finally be publishing Yakuza 5 in North America and PAL regions beginning next year. This is on the back of many requests by fans, which saw the game make it to the top of Sony Computer Entertainment’s own #BuildingTheList campaign which was originally run by Gio Corsi.
On the back of the approach taken in Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5 follows the story of Kazuma Kiryu and four other protagonists, following their struggles and conflicts that face them in multiple locations across Japan. The most notable inclusion is Haruka actually being a playable character, after serving as an important storyline character for every game since launch, although her gameplay is considerably different from the others. Yakuza 5 also introduces “Another Drama” which is a series of side stories that focus on each protagonist in-depth and are separate from the main story of the game.
While it will be localized, Sega have only committed to a digital release on the PlayStation 3 next year.
