As it has been for many many years now, with each Nintendo console comes a brand new Mario Kart game – and with the Wii U Nintendo have finally announced the release of Mario Kart 8…. or Mario Kart 90 degree angled infinite sign. In this game we can expect new racing circuit designs, no doubt a new and even more frustrating Rainbow Road and the games feature of the installment – antigravity cars.

Yep, while the Gamecube allowed two people per vehicle, the Wii introduced Motorbikes and the 3DS edition took the three car types from Diddy Kong Racing – in Mario Kart 8 you get to drive around in anti-gravity karts alongside hang-gliders, underwater racing and motorbikes. In addition to that, the game will welcome the return of 12-player online competitive play – and provided the game is good I look forward to trying it out.

The promoted features of this release include:

  • The new antigravity feature allows for never-imagined racing circuit designs. Players will speed through courses and find themselves suddenly racing on walls in a haunted mansion or upside-down over Princess Peach’s Castle as their wheels automatically rotate and shift into antigravity gear.
  • Mario Kart TV lets players share highlight videos they submitted to Miiverse.
  • Experience a wealth of features that span the series, including 12-player online competitive play. Elements first introduced in Mario Kart 7, such as hang gliders and underwater racing, along with elements introduced in Mario Kart Wii, such as motorbikes and performing tricks in midair, also make their return.
  • Fan-favorites Waluigi and Toadette re-join the cast of familiar characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Crisp HD graphics and a 60-frames-per-second frame rate offer players the most visually stunning entry in the series yet.

Unfortunately with this announcement comes a wait, with Mario Kart 8 set for release in Spring 2014.
