While since being initially announced during E3 2012, the Playstation 3’s Wonderbook format has received only one release. This title, Wonderbook: Book of Spells brought the spells and lore of the Harry Potter universe to the console, in which the (assumingly younger) gamer could use the Move Controller as a wand to cast and chant a number of spells. While it only managed to walk away with a B- in my review of it, it showed a promising outlook for the platform even if it is aimed at primarily younger audiences.

The second Wonderbook title, titled Wonderbook: Diggs Nightcrawler is set for release on the 14th June 2013 and is in development by the team at Moonbot Studios. To celebrate its slowly advancing release, the company have released a short Developer’s Diary on the game – highlighting how they created the unique world of Library City and its cast of colourful characters.

With the book as the starting point, the world, the characters, the story and the interactions were born (or as Humpty would say, “hatched”). A detective bookworm who knows he’s inside a book, whose world is made from books, and who travels throughout the course of the game to different sections of the library, meeting unique characters along the way – being Wonderbook this is no ordinary hardcover. The world that the characters inhabit is in your hands, creating novel ways of interacting with the game.
