While we do know of the canine stars who will be featuring in the upcoming 2025 Australian tour of Annie – Bodhi and Sandy – what about the human casting for the musical? Producer John Frost for Crossroads Live and director Karen Johnson Mortimer, has announced the start of auditions for key roles in the production, including Annie and her orphan friends: Duffy, Kate, Tessie, Pepper, July, Molly, and Friday. Additionally, select adult roles are also being auditioned for.

The production team is seeking multiple casts to fill these roles. Applications are open until 22 August, with auditions scheduled to take place in October. Interested candidates can apply through their dedicated auditions website.

Children selected for the roles will be part of an ensemble group, performing in major musical numbers throughout the show. As the role of Annie involves working closely with a dog, all applicants must be comfortable with animals.

Producer John Frost highlighted the demanding nature of the leading role of Annie specifically, sharing:

Annie is a complex, tough, streetwise urchin who is surprisingly vulnerable when she thinks she might lose what has become the most important thing in her life, finding her family. We’re looking for girls who are strong vocally and musically with good dance skills to play Annie. She should light up the stage when she sings Tomorrow! I can’t wait to see the terrific talent during the auditions.

Annie will commence its 2025 Australian tour at the Sydney Capitol Theatre starting March 2025. While no other legs have been announced, given the broad appeal of the musical, it would be surprising if a broader national tour wasn’t already in the planning stages. Typically with these, different casts of children are arranged for each state, maintaining a core principal adult cast. For information on ticket sales, visit the musical’s official website.
