With rejoycifying from musical theatre fans, WICKED has commenced its new season at the Sydney Lyric Theatre, with the precinct around the theatre being decorated green to mark the Emerald City appearing back in Australia.
Both a prequel and an “alternate story” to The Wizard of Oz, WICKED follows to recognisable young women who meet in the land of Oz. One born with emerald-green skin is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. The other is bubbly, blonde, ambitious and exceptionally popular. They become rivals, then friends…until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked”… and then things get complicated.
To complement the opening of the Sydney season, the producers at Crossroads Live Australia have confirmed that new tickets for the production will be available from later this week. Pre-sales will commence tomorrow, with general public on-sale to commence on 1 September 2023. Ticketing information can be found on the musical’s official website.
Commenting on the opening of the first stop in what could be another major national tour for the production, producer John Frost had the following to say:
