Royal Caribbean’s April Fools’ Day Announcement – Crikey of the Seas – A Cruise Ship I Want to Travel On!

April Fools’ Day has come and gone for another year, with many companies, studios and creative souls finding all sorts of ways to entertain their audiences with absurd but even the slightest bit believable announcements. One such company to do this was the cruising company Royal Caribbean, who jokingly announced their new Quantum Class ship Crikey of the Seas, set to head Down Under exclusively starting 1 April 2024.

As someone mentioned in the comments, this is “Clearly not true – there would be a best mullet competition if so”, however it does propose a number of tantalising Aussie-themed events including:

– Budgie Beach
– Cricket field
– BBQ’s on the balcony suites
– Aussie animal sculptures and artwork
– Aussie cocktails including Vegemite mojito, lamington mudslide, fairy bread margarita and a pavlova spritz
– Meat Pie making classes
– AC/DC themed night
– Kylie Minogue silent disco
– Tim Tam Slam competition
– Green & Gold SeaPlex

Okay, a vegemite mojito might be pushing it, but with the mudslides being my jam when cruising, getting one complemented by coconut and other goodies sounds amazing! Although am not sure if I would want a stateroom too close to the aft of the Crikey of the Seas…. having a giant koala potentially peering through the windows would be more than a little daunting. Even if this is fictional, it gets the mind wondering what an ‘Australia themed cruise’ would look like.

The main issue to me with this is that they could have dreamed bigger with this theoretical ship…. imagine all the other goodies they could cram into a Crikey of the Seas based on one of their Oasis or incoming Icon class ships! Really, I would love to not have to travel overseas to check out the best of what Royal Caribbean has to offer.
