Both first-timers and seasoned musical theatre afficionados will be able to mourn the wicked once again from 2023, with Crossroads Live Australia to commence a new Australian tour of acclaimed musical Wicked from next year. If you reside in or will find yourself in Sydney in the latter days of August 2023, you have the chance of being one of the first in Australia to return to the Emerald City, with first performances set to commence on 25 August 2023.
The producers have commenced pre-sales for the production’s earliest weeks, so be sure to check your email inboxes to see if you have an offer available to you. Alternatively, general public on-sales are set to commence from Friday 2 December 2022. Tickets will be purchasable directly through TicketMaster’s website, or by calling them on 136 100, and will be available from $79.00. Higher price points may be indicative of better seat locations/reserves and/or dates/times.
Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire and an alternate retelling and prequel to the events of The Wizard of Oz, Wicked features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production features musical staging by Wayne Cilento with original direction by Joe Mantello. Wicked is being produced in Australia by John Frost for Crossroads Live Australia, Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.
The story starts some time before Dorothy “dropped in”, telling the story of two young women who meet in the land of Oz. One born with emerald-green skin is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. The other is bubbly, blonde, ambitious and exceptionally popular. They become rivals, then friends… until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked.”
