Hairspray the Musical’s Sydney Season Goes On Public Sale This Friday

While those who are part of musicals waiting lists may already be in in the pre-sale, for those who are not, take note that general public on-sale for seats to the upcoming Sydney season of Hairspray will be going on-sale this Friday. The production is currently taking up residence in Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, before heading to Adelaide’s Festival Theatre in December and then Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in February 2023. For booking information at all three venues, visit the production’s official website.

Being presented by John Frost for Crossroads Live, Hairspray the Musical’s newest Australian tour features many prominent names of Australian stage and screen. This includes Shane Jacobson and Todd McKenney as Edna and Wilbur Turnblad, Carmel Rodrigues as Tracy Turnblad, Rob Mills as Corny Collins, Rhonda Burchmore as Velma Von Tussle, Asabi Goodman as Motormouth Maybelle, Seasn Johnston as Link Larkin, Jason King as Seaweed J. Stubbs, Brianna Bishop as Amber von Tussle, Ayanda Dladla as Little Inez and Mackenzie Dunn as Penny Pingleton. They will be joined on-stage by a diverse ensemble.

For those who have somehow never heard of Hairspray, it is a romantic comedy focusing on the dance-loving teenage Tracy Turnblad who has one dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When her dream becomes reality, big-haired Tracy falls in love and finds friends in unexpected ways.

Hairspray the Musical will commence at the Sydney Lyric Theatre from Sunday 5 February 2023 and will run until at least Sunday 5 March 2023 – although more shows are very likely to be added in the near future.
