A Good Move – QPAC Implements Mask Requirements Again Following Surge in Queensland COVID Cases

With COVID-19 outbreaks surging once again and theatres being home to hundreds or thousands of folks sitting together in very close proximity, it would be understandable that some, or many, people would be concerned about those sniffling or coughing around them potentially giving them the virus. Fortunately the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) have done the smart thing and reintroduced mask requirements in their foyers and theatres – both during and outside of performances.

Given the performing arts still attracts many older and vulnerable patrons, QPAC making the decision to implement this should be commended. The announcement was made via their social media channels and has received a mixed reception, the negativity mostly coming from the vocal minority who don’t want to wear masks, but there have been a substantially positive wave of feedback as well. This announcement is separate from any state government mandate, although given recent case numbers, it is likely only a matter of time until a more solid announcement for Queensland and Australia is made.

To be precise, the mask requirements have been added to QPAC’s ‘Conditions of Entry’, as per the below:

64. Without limiting any other paragraphs of these Conditions, you must comply with all QPAC procedures, requirements and instructions, and any laws aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.

(a) From 17 July 2022 until otherwise advised, anyone over the age of 12 years entering QPAC will be required to wear a face mask in all public spaces (including foyers and theatres).

Regardless of whether you are for or against masks, do not give any crap to the front of house staff or security about this decision. They are only doing their job.
