At the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were many cancellations in the musical theatre space across the country. One of these was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, which was mere days away from its opening night before producer The Gordon Frost Organisation was forced to pull the plug. There was no indication that the show would return to Brisbane, although there was hope, with QPAC opting to put the money in to bring GFO’s other upcoming musical, Shrek the Musical, to Queensland. Turns out that hope was founded, with this recent announcement.
From 2 September 2021, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in association with John Frost for The Gordon Frost Organisation, Craig Donnell, Warner Bros Theatre Ventures, Langley Park Productions and Neal Street Productions will bring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the QPAC Lyric Theatre.
Tickets for the limited season will go on-sale Friday 21 May 2021 from 9.00am, although it is likely that those on various waitlists will get pre-sale access to the first few weeks. Ticket prices will range from $69.00 to $139.00, with reserves based on seating location, family status and preferred day of the week. You can keep an eye on ticket availability via QPAC’s website.
Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more information on casting.
