Arts Centre Melbourne and Australian Music Vault Partner Up for Vault Sessions Concert Initiative

Despite being closed for many months and having a planned reopening cancelled due to the resurgence of COVID-19 in Victoria, a steady stream of digital programming has emerged from Arts Centre Melbourne through their Together with You initiative. Following the final episode of Big Night In with John Foreman airing, you might be looking for something new in the live concert space. If this is you, the weekly Vault Sessions program might be up your alley.

Created in partnership with Australian Music Vault with support from Victoria Together, Vault Sessions is a new concert series due to commence on Thursday 23 July 2020 and run weekly for at least the next three weeks. Featuring Australian musicians including Alice Skye, Ziggy Ramo and Cash Savage and the Last Drinks; these concerts were recorded in an empty Hamer Hall auditorium. The reasoning behind this recording strategy was to give you, the viewer, a level of immersion by feeling like you are sitting in the stalls, watching these musicians perform live on stage.

The Vault Sessions will commence at 7.30 pm on the evening of each scheduled performance, and can be watched via YouTube or Facebook. Each of the below listed concerts will only be available for two weeks following their original stream:

Alice Skye | Thursday, 23 July
Ziggy Ramo | Thursday, 30 July
Cash Savage and the Last Drinks | Thursday, 6 August

More information on each of the Australian performers (provided by Arts Centre Melbourne) can be found below:

Singer-songwriter Alice Skye, a proud Wergaia and Wemba Wemba woman, has emerged as one of the most formidable talents within the Australian music scene. Her original songs sparkle with a sensitivity and maturity well beyond her years, capturing the hearts of punters and industry alike.

Her critically acclaimed debut album Friends With Feelings in 2018 captured hearts and 2020 is set to be another big year for Skye with the upcoming release her sophomore album I Feel Better But I Don’t Feel Good via Briggs’ prolific indigenous label Bad Apples Music (Island Records /Universal Music).

Ziggy Ramo’s razor-sharp lyricism and effortlessly cool musical talent have positioned him as an essential voice in Australia’s national conversation. When it comes to racialized discrimination and injustice, silence is violence – making Sydney-based hip hop and freestyle artist Ramo the roaring sound of peace.

Ramo has received the West Australian Music (WAM) title for ‘Indigenous Artist of the Year’ and ‘Hip Hop Artist of the Year’, as well as Triple J Unearthed’s ‘Artist to Watch’. Ramo’s new release, Black Thoughts (2019), is an extended version of the artist’s 2016 debut EP by the same name and explores the position of Australia’s First Nation’s people in today’s society.

In an era when the world is falling apart with such a deafening roar, Cash Savage’s voice rings loud over the cacophony. Songs of politics, grief, songs of rage – this is weighty music that has been written to cut through the noise.

Every performance by Cash Savage and The Last Drinks is as epic as it is honest, raw and human. As the band’s latest album Good Citizens continues to receive critical acclaim worldwide, the band are currently working on their next due for release in early 2021.
