Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’s Brisbane Season Cancelled

Especially in a state where there are only a few theatres which can host a major musical for as long a period, it is likely we will see musicals impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak struggle to reschedule their seasons in Brisbane. Sadly, the Gordon Frost Organisation have this evening confirmed that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was due to commence its final leg at the QPAC Lyric Theatre last month, has been cancelled rather than rescheduled.

Full Announcement

We regret to advise that in the current uncertain times it is not possible to reschedule the final leg of our tour at QPAC in Brisbane.

Thank you to the hundreds of thousands of people who shared the joy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We are disappointed we didn’t get to open our chocolate factory doors for you one last time, but we hope you all stay safe and remember…

“There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you’ll be free if you truly wish to be.”

My thoughts go out to the cast, crew, creatives and other professional staff who have undoubtedly been impacted by this cancellation. With the current indefinite nature of social distancing orders at this time. It is possible this will not be the only musical impacted, especially given bookings in the QPAC Lyric Theatre would very likely be made many months if not years in advance.
