Brisbane Performing Arts Venues’ Public Statements Around COVID-19 [Fri 13 Mar]

If you are like me, then you may have that sudden urge to make a spontaneous trip to the theatre this weekend – or are perhaps wondering if your tickets are still valid following the recent events unfolding around the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

With Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison putting out the recommendation that non-essential gatherings of more than 500 be postponed from Monday, venues are likely to have different approaches to performances going forward until the potential risk is lowered.

While many venues will likely provide additional statements early next week about their plans going forward, this is the most recent advice provided by three of Brisbane’s major performing arts venues: The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Brisbane Powerhouse and The Tivoli. If you are looking to attend another venue and are concerned, visit their official website or give them a call.

Queensland Performing Arts Centre

At QPAC, we are working closely with Queensland Health and will continue to keep our patrons informed and updated. We are also following the requirements of current health advice from the Queensland and Australian Government. The current advice includes:

Public Events or Mass Gatherings
There is no need to cancel any events or gatherings or take additional precautions to normal practice. People who are unwell should not attend public events.

Returned travellers who have visited China, Iran, Italy or the Republic of Korea.

Brisbane Powerhouse

Brisbane Powerhouse is closely monitoring the evolving situation around the spread of COVID-19 and is receiving regular updates and advice from experts and authorities including the Australian Government, Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council and industry bodies.

The Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer currently advises that there is no material risk associated with attending a public gathering so Brisbane Powerhouse will safely continue to welcome visitors, host performances and events as programmed.

People who have been in COVID-19 affected countries, have had contact with a confirmed case or are unwell should continue to avoid all public gatherings.

In light of the Federal Government’s most recent advice we will be reviewing all future events as of Monday 16 March.

The Tivoli

To all our valued guests,

As of Monday 15th March 2020, we’ll be cancelling all events with capacities of over 500 people as per the advice of the Australian Government.  

By Monday, you’ll be able to see clearly via our website which events will be proceeding or not. All official correspondence to ticket holders regarding cancellations and postponements will be addressed via email by either The Tivoli or Ticketmaster in due course.

There may be instances where an event promoter or artist decides to not proceed with an event with a capacity under 500 capacity for their own personal reasons. If this occurs, ticket holders will be notified.
